Operated By:
Meet at Margaret River mouth, Prevelly Beach 9.40 am (we can also arrange a pickup at Margaret River Visitors Centre 9.30 am if you have no transport). At the river mouth, enjoy exhilarating views off Surfers Point and the river meeting the ocean.
Equipment and canoe instruction is professionally provided for all ability levels. At 10.15 am tour guests depart into the river valley, past cliffs, pioneer and aboriginal sites, by 2-5 seater canoes.
As no motor craft are permitted on the river, the healthy native ecosystem with rare public access, boasts clean, clear water, Australian wildlife, unique forests, and tranquil waters.
Lunch is served and wild foods fully explained by 1 pm. Paddle upstream past forested kangaroo habitats and learn the history of our first native inhabitants and the trials of the famous Bussell family of Busselton. Unique photo sites, fun in the sun. Meander home or race for the Margaret River wine to Surfer’s Beach at 2 pm.
This trip has won 3 state awards for its unique itinerary!
The Bushtucker lunch is a special treat, not your standard tour lunch! Included is an exotic selection of wild food tastes from all over Western Australia, together with locally made pestos, chutneys, dips, and baked breads. Kangaroo, tender and tasty, emu with wild nut pesto, and wild turkey topped with rosella chutney as well as crocodile are all on the menu. Vegetarians are well catered for. Enjoy 20 unique native tastings!
Locally owned and operated since 1990 by Helen Lee, voted the top tour on Tripadvisor by people just like you. We’re also a previous winner of the best Tour Guide in WA and several state and national tourism awards.
After 25 years of successful tours, we know where to find the best tastes of Margaret River and promise you a brilliant fun memorable day.
Thanks for your booking on the Famous Bushtucker Tours Cave & Canoe Tour. Your seats are now confirmed.
On your tour, you will enjoy flatwater canoeing in Canadian canoes, paddling to visit several sites along the riverbank. The Wild food lunch gives you the opportunity to taste a variety of bush tucker (including gourmet food) and learn about the medicinal properties of plants found within the area. A great experience is completed with historical tales concerning original settlers and indigenous tribes. Finish the day with a canoe race back to the river mouth, returning at approximately 2.00pm. Wear open or closed shoes, leisure clothes (items you don’t mind getting wet and dirty), a hat, sun-screen, and bring along a water bottle and of course your camera!

Great day with lots of drinks and laughs.
very accommodation as booked last minute.
lunch was very interesting with local meats
Our only criticism of this tour is why it started so late, knowing that the wind would pick up and make it less enjoyable. If the tour began at say, 7:30 or 8, the conditions around lunch time would be perfect for swimming. But by the time we got to the pontoon it was probably gusting to 15-20 knots. Not super pleasant. Other than that, it was a great day!
Booking online was easy and had confirmation back in minutes from the owner Helen saying the pick up time would be 10.30 from our hotel.
Our driver and guide Peter was a true blue Aussie, very friendly and knowledgeable.
Visited quite a few wineries, Margaret River chocolate factory and The Cheeky Monkey Brewery.
The bushtucker lunch was set up by Peter whilst the rest of us sampled the wine.
Meats on offer were crocodile, emu, kangaroo and beef together with other Australian delights.
Well worth the $$ and would do again.
Thank you Emma for a fantastic experience with my family.
Highly recommend the Bush Tucker Tour.
Highlights:
-fantastic, cool, calm and knowledgeable tour guide. Our tour guide was an absolutely wonderful wise woman.
-Culturally informative, the tour really supported everyone’s knowledge of how important the river is to the Aboriginal community past and present.
- The food was unreal! I’ve never had so much Australian food in my life and I live here.
- It is fun and safe for a wide range of age groups
- No sharks in the river.
- Heaps of bird watching, bring your binoculars.
Very grateful for the experience and the knowledge we learnt.
The vineyards we went to , the nougat chocolate company, beer and ginger beard and the spirit company was truly impressing as I never new that existence. They were simply AMAZING!!
Our tour guide, Adam, was very informative, kind and friendly to the point he drove us to our front door of the motel and helped bring in our purchases, which was a lot due to the locations we went to.
This is my second time I've been with Bushtucker Tours and it certainly won't be my last.
See you all again soon,
Fiona Faulkner
The guides were very knowledgeable about the Margaret River and bush Tucker foods.
They made the day a lot of fun plus we learnt a lot about the area.
Thankyou Emma
Cheers

I joined the Bushtucker Tours Canoe River Tour twice, and it turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of my Margaret River trip. The scenery along the river was simply stunning — calm waters surrounded by lush forest, native plants, and abundant wildlife. It’s the perfect way to experience the natural beauty of the region from a completely different perspective.
Canoe guides, Adam and Ema, were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They shared fascinating stories about the local environment, native plants, and their traditional uses. We really enjoyed learning about the region’s unique ecosystem while gently paddling down the river. Both guides made everyone feel comfortable, even for first-time paddlers, and ensured the whole group had a relaxing and fun time.
The Bushtucker Tours team also impressed us with their professional communication — from the easy booking process to their follow-up before and after the tour. They truly care about their guests and make sure everyone has a memorable experience.
If you’re visiting Margaret River, this canoe tour is an absolute must-try. It’s a perfect blend of adventure, nature, and culture — suitable for families, couples, and anyone who loves the outdoors. Lovely lunch with unusual bush food thoroughly enjoyed the trip
The native plant tasting was so unique, the canoe ride was fun and the lunch by the river was delicious.
A great experience! We’ve already told our friends in Perth to book this experience when they head down to Margaret River, we couldn’t recommend it more!
We visited Woody Nook, Knotting Hill, and Bettenay's wineries, The Grove Distillery, a chocolatier, and a brewery. Our guide was Adam, who was very informative, and gave us a great lunch.
We bought a case of wine that kept us going for a few days !
All good - would recommend.
Massive shout out to Marty, our tour guide, who made the day unforgettable with his hilarious witty banter and extensive knowledge of the area, wines and foods we enjoyed. 10/10!
From Yorkshire Nick
During travel we were told the story of Busselton. Her knowledge was over the top amazing.
Once we were with the tour it continued to be just outstanding fun and history sharing.
Don’t use anyone else in our opinion but this company. We will return to Busselton to see the caves with this tour company
Thanks for this wonderful experience
The entire booking process was simple and I was kept in the loop re: pickup, timing etc for the whole time.
