Battery Point Jaunts
These tours run for an hour and take in Salamanca Place and the charming streets of historic Battery Point village. Battery Point is a little known Australian treasure. Nowhere else in the country will you see such a variety of early colonial architecture preserved so perfectly. There are impressive stone mansions with expansive gardens right next to tiny workers’ cottages built right on the street. It’s just like an English village transported to Australia. Battery Point’s preservation was ensured through the hard work of the Battery Point Progress Association and, today, strict rules govern any development in the area.
On this tour, you’ll be immersed in the atmosphere of 19th Century Hobart and it’s easy to imagine life in Georgian and Victorian times when you ride in our vis-a-vis landau driven by the carriage driver in authentic livery. You’ll be able to appreciate the beauty of this unique area from a perspective that can’t be reproduced by driving in a car or even walking. We’ll wind our way through the narrow streets, stopping from time to time to tell you a little more and allowing you the opportunity to take photos or to absorb the atmosphere. We take our time so you can really take in the details but, don’t worry, there are plenty of hang on to your hat moments with our #thrillupthehill.
Travelling up Hampden Road, once the centre of Battery Point’s shopping district, you may even see Mt Wellington topped with snow. It’s a fantastic photo opportunity! Battery Point is now an eclectic mix of Georgian, Victorian, and Federation architecture and there’s something to admire from every viewpoint.
We do recommend this tour for adults and older children. For more information on Battery Point, please go to our Battery Point page http://www.hobarthorsetours.com.au/a-short-history-of-hobarts-battery-point/

A great way to see Hobart
Horses are like their family, not overworked and very well cared for!
And they are super cute with the crochet ear covers!
Would certainly recommend
I thoroughly enjoyed doing it on a horse trip; there’s something incredibly relaxing and romantic about seeing the city this way, far removed from the hustle of cars or walking tours. The horses were magnificent and well-cared for, and the carriage itself was comfortable and elegant.
Highly recommend this unique way to discover Hobart’s history and beauty—whether you’re visiting solo, as a couple, or with family. It’s a memorable, peaceful adventure that I’d do again in a heartbeat! 5 stars for me!
The horses are superbly behaved and trained wonderfully. It is easy to see that they are well cared for and loved dearly.
Communication was clear and up to date.
Highly recommend this tour to all. Such a wonderful Hobart experience. 🐴💗
Thoroughly recommend taking this tour for anyone.
We cannot tell you enough how amazing the carriage ride was along Salamanca waterfront . From Emily’s infectious happy smile and Steve’s charismatic nature and wealth of knowledge to the patience of Hank and Soxy.
Best $60 spent for the 2 of us.
Highly Recommended.
5 stars
Wow.Awesome.Fantastic.Nostalgic to say the least.
Steve was our guide, and he was superb, the knowledge that Steve gave us about Battery Hill was mind blowing. Such a wonderful gentleman.
Sharon is the lovely lady who took the booking and arranged our morning tea. Sharon was so wonderful in making sure my treats were gluten free as I am coeliac. Nothing was too much trouble for her to do.
I absolutely recommend doing the carriage ride. If you don’t have time for the longer rides they do shorted ones.
We will absolutely do this again when we are back in Hobart.
Thank-you Sharon and Steve for making my birthday memorable
Oh wait, no, not horse carriage, we had Unicorn carriage!!!!
It was great, and was absolutely magical.
You can take wine for the ride.
I would highly recommend this tour to learn about the colourful history of the area and lovely outing in a beautiful carriage.
Thank you team 😊
Website booking isn't very mobile friendly, otherwise it was a 5 star experience. Thank you
